3 Years on… what’s the plan!?
It’s hard to believe but the time has flown by – three whole years! While it hasn’t been without downs as well as ups (some of them pretty difficult to deal with) it has undoubtedly been one of the best things I’ve ever done. I wouldn’t change it for the world.
Having had a pretty tough year of it, we didn’t feel too much like celebrating, so we marked the three-year-anniversary by sending a large amount of money to the local notaire. Yes, that’s right, folks; we’re actually buying land, at long long last! Plans are afoot for the build and we’re moving out of our current rental in a few weeks in an attempt to rein in the spending (rent is taking up a huge chunk of our resources) and focus on the build. It’s not over yet – we still have a vast amount of work to do – but I am daring to feel at last like we’re getting somewhere. We sign on Tuesday. Then we will at last own a little piece of France and a place to call home, even if, for now, there’s no house on it!
Even though I’m 99.9% sure this is all going to be fine, I’m going to hold of sharing a photo of the actual spot until Wednesday. That’ll be the first time we go to the plot, home, as the actual owners. On the inside I’m insanely excited.
I remember when one of my friends commented on a photo of a the view from the field next to our house in the UK, taken just before we moved. She commented that it was beautiful and would be a tough one to beat. Well, we’ve worked hard at it, learned a lot, and turned down places that others would have jumped at, and had a few disappointments that looking back were narrow escapes!
